All wealthy people have a Money Mindset that, not only makes them rich but, keeps them rich and growing.
When I was young, I had middle-class beliefs about money because of my own upbringing and the beliefs I carried into adulthood.
It took me a while to understand that every successful person has a healthy Money Mindset and that our Money Mindset can change our life, business, and even relationships.
So, what helped me change my Money Mindset?
Reading about successful people.
Jeff Bezos’ ex-wife Mackenzie Scott was recently in the news after marrying a new man and asking him to sign a contract, agreeing to support her passions to steward half of her $36 Billion to charity.
Mackenzie made her debut after finishing her divorce with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos in July 2019; the award-winning novelist received a quarter of her ex-husband’s shares in the e-commerce giant.
Mackenzie signed the Giving Pledge, a program initiated by Warren Buffett and Bill and Melinda Gates, promising to give away at least half of her fortune in May 2019.
According to its website, the Pledge “is a commitment by the world’s wealthiest individuals and families to dedicate the majority of their wealth to giving back.”
Mackenzie says:
“I have no doubt that tremendous value comes when people act quickly on the impulse to give. No drive has more positive ripple effects than the desire to be of service.
There are lots of resources each of us can pull from our safes to share with others — time, attention, knowledge, patience, creativity, talent, effort, humor, compassion.
And sure enough, something greater rises up every time we give: the easy breathing of a friend we sit with when we had other plans, the relief on our child’s face when we share the story of our own mistake, laughter at the well-timed joke we tell to someone who is crying, the excitement of the kids in the school we send books to, the safety of the families who sleep in the shelters we fund.
These immediate results are only the beginning. Their value keeps multiplying and spreading in ways we may never know.
We each come by the gifts we have to offer by an infinite series of influences and lucky breaks we can never fully understand.
In addition to whatever assets life has nurtured in me, I have a disproportionate amount of money to share.
My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful. It will take time and effort and care. But I won’t wait. And I will keep at it until the safe is empty.”
But why is it so important to give back? 🤔
Giving back money, time, and being in service are great ways to increase your perceptions of the world.
By giving back and surrounding yourself with dedicated people to make a better world, you’ll learn about how the world works.
You’ll get a unique sense of purpose by serving people around you.
Giving back is also a great way to know your community.
When you give back, you have the opportunity to meet new people.
It will help you better understand the circumstances of other members in your community.
Having a deep, open-minded perspective of life around you will help you be an effective and empathetic person.
Giving back will also help you uncover the power of gratitude.
Studies have shown that gratitude is good for your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health, so the more you’re grateful, the better you’ll feel.
Even in these last few years, I’ve experienced momentary setbacks and I leaned into my gratitude to stay focused on the abundance around me.
I had to continue feeding my mind that abundance is around the corner even in moments that were challenging.
You change your Money Mindset by changing what you focus on.
When you focus on scarcity, you’re focusing on the problem, not the solution.
Start focusing on the solutions.
We are like sponges; we absorb from the environment surrounding us. Surround yourself with like-minded people.
When you want abundance, you need to be present and intentional in what you do.
And remember, money is a tool; it’s important how you use that tool to serve the world.
Mackenzie Bezos proves that a mindset of abundance and gratitude will make you a better person and live in abundance.
